2018 NY It Awards Internships
Our Internships run in flexible cycles, 3, 6 and 12 month duration.
Summer Internship includes 2 events and a project between June 1, 2018 and September 30, 2018. (Exact dates are flexible based on the intern's availability.)
Ideal candidates have a genuine enthusiasm for the New York Independent Theatre / Off-Off-Broadway.

GENERAL MANAGEMENTAn exciting opportunity to get a well-rounded experience working in theater arts administration, company management, artistic relations, event planning and technical theater production. Interns assist in the Executive Directors’ office, which handles budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating the technical and artistic aspects of our schedule of 2-3 high-profile special events throughout the 6-month seasonal internship commitment. Interns also assist in providing administrative support to technical and artistic departments during each event’s “Tech Week.”
Seeking candidates with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with a wide range of people; organized, efficient, personable, respectful,
self-motivators with effective written and oral communication skills, who work well in a fast-paced setting and are able to multi-task. Computer skills: Microsoft Office and Internet research skills.
PRODUCTION MANAGEMENTProduction interns work directly with the Company Manager and Department Captains during pre-production, rehearsal, tech, and performance for our schedule of 2-3 high-profile special events throughout the 6-month seasonal internship commitment. Production Management interns assist in all areas of production, including: rehearsal schedules, budget, communications with direction & design teams, written communications, venue coordination, talent coordination, lighting, sound, scenic, front of house setup, talent management, and running shows.
Production skills, previous theatre / tech experience required. Should be flexible and willing to assist in all areas as needed. Excellent organizational skills, “people” skills, Microsoft Office, Google docs, and calendar management are needs. Must be able to work well under pressure.
SOCIAL MEDIAAssists with the social media promotion of the It Awards and Nominees during the 2018 awards season (June 1 - Sept. 30, 2018)
- Interns attend a class based on an assigned social media tool, shares that information with the team, and develops a strategy for integrating that tool into the It Awards social media plan throughout the rest of the internship
- As a team interns would set social media goals for the season
- Interns contribute a blog post about their experience with the Indie Theatre community
- Interns contribute at least five blog posts about 2018 nominated productions
- Interns have assignments at the It Awards 2018 events
- Interns attend at least 2 OOB productions as an IT Awards Judge
VIDEO DESIGNThe video production team produces video, operates cameras, records video for broadcast and archive, manages webcast stream, and edits video for marketing and sales. Video production is a critical function at each of our major events, and for the Foundation’s
webcastiing clients throughout the NYC arts community.
Candidates should have working knowledge of video equipment, editing software, and/or broadcast or webcast production experience.
MEDIA DESIGNMedia interns assist in the design and production of Innovative Theatre Foundation branding collateral including: general marketing, sponsorship, advertising, and events materials using the Adobe Creative Suite to promote the Innovative Theatre Foundation and our largest program, the New York Innovative Theatre Awards. The position is ideal for anyone interested in a branding and marketing management career.
Strong graphic design skills are required. Previous design experience is essential, as is availability for project-based turnover throughout the internship commitment. Applicants must have access to Adobe Creative Suite, internet, and email.
WEB/SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENTIntern is directly involved with the development and maintenance of foundation website. The Web and Systems Development Intern assists in programming and systems design to improve existing systems and and build new projects in support of the foundation and the New York Innovative Theatre Awards.
Strong ASP, PHP, MYSQL, Drupal, coding skills are required. Previous web-database-email integration experience is essential, as is availability for project-based execution throughout the internship commitment. Applicants must have access to web and email. Ideally, this person would have a genuine enthusiasm for the New York Independent Theater / OOB community.
PUBLICITYInterns provide support to the It Awards Public Relations Representative, a NYC
PR firm specializing in entertainment-specifically film, theatre, & dance. Responsibilities include theater PR work. Theatre duties include greeting & seating the press, writing promotional pitches, helping create Press Kits, assisting with interviews, photo-shoots & making public appearances at various theatrical functions.
Get a chance to network with the top theatre companies in the city of NYC. Must be extremely personable, able to multitask, and able to complete tasks independently.
All interns participate in the nominee notification process.
Interns have the opportunity to attend the NYC Indie Theatre Producers Seminar on April 20, 2018.
Internships are UNPAID for a non-profit organization. However, credit can be provided for schools that allow credentialing.
