Indie Theatre Feels the Effects of Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy has left the city with a crippled public transportation system, power outages and massive damage that will take days, weeks and maybe even months to rectify.

Indie Theatre producers spend months fundraising, planning and rehearsing productions. Just like any other small business, something as uncontrollable or as widespread as a hurricane can be devastating to a production and critically drain companies of precious resources and funds. Whether it is cancelled rehearsals, tech or actual performances, damage to the theatre, loss of power or that the subway shutdown makes it difficult for cast, crew and audience to get to the theatre, the next couple of weeks will undoubtedly be difficult for indie theatre productions.

Off-Off-Broadway is one of the largest arts communities in the world with an estimated 40,000 artists working in this sector each year. We have always been a resourceful and resilient community that is as dedicated to one another as we are to our art. Now is the time for us to show the strength of our numbers and be there for our fellow artists.
